When I was a kid and we went to Jewel (Albertson's to those from seattle), I remember the black and white label
DUN DUN DUN generic aisle. I would avoid it at all costs for fear that someone from school would see me there. Now don't get me wrong, my parents never bought from there, but we very rarely needed what was on those shelves. Plus, Nancita does not like generic. As little money as we had when we were kids, we ALWAYS had name brand cereal! Today, I buy the Target brand and also the grocery brands, but never in my wildest dreams could i have EVER imagined what i saw in my kitchen today!
We have been talking about getting the girls
Cheerios for weeks now, since they can swallow finger foods without choking. So today Andi goes to the store and comes back with THIS!!
This is what happened next:
me: what is this?
her: Cheerios
me: NO! they are Multigrain Os!
her: I checked the ingredients, they're exactly the same.
me: NO! they are not!
As I pick up the box in horror and taste one, I notice they are sweet. I look on the back where I see BROWN SUGAR. Now admittedly, I have put a bit of brown sugar in their oatmeal; but it belongs there, right?
Back to the dialogue:
me: there is sugar in here!
her: yes, i know. But then maybe i can have some; I don't like regular Cheerios.
me: WHAT? OK, now i see.
her: Look they love them!
After I pick myself off the floor,
me: i can't believe it- they are now destined for generic cereal!
Then came her final answer.
her: at least I didn't get the kind in a bag!
Well bless her heart, 'cuz that would've been a deal breaker!!!
